Hey all! Anyone used this product? How do you rate it? It's available at beyondsight.com. What do y'all think? Thanks!
I haven't used it, but I've looked at its specs. So, here's the question that begs an answer...Why are they charging so much for a less-than specked out computer with no screen? Sure, it comes up talking, but if you already have a screen reader, why spend that kind of money to buy a computer with it already installed? I'd steer clear of it if I were you. Just my opinion, of course.
not only that, but from what I've heard, it comes with windoweyes, and if you're more used to using Jaws over that, you're just going to have to uninstall Windoweyes and install Jaws; so why not just get a regular laptop and install Jaws from the get-go? Then of course there's the issue of it malfunctioning.
You'll have to send it back to the factory and probably pay a pretty good bit just to have it repaired, where as if you had a laptop with a functioning screen, someone could fix it easily (providing there wasn't a lot of damage done to it,) and possibly not charge you as much as you'd be charged to ship it and have repairs done on it.
It suposidly gets you good battary life with out a screen, but in that case if you need battary life why not get a braille note or pack mate?
Or just turn the brightness down real low on the screen.
Thanks all. I was only curious. It looked kind of cool and is cheaper than the pacmates or braille sense. I need to upgrade my window-eyes anyway, so I was thinking laptop with screen reader already on it. smile! I suppose I'd prefer a regular laptop anyway.
